Common DNS Record Types

How long does DNS propagation take?

DNS propagation is really just cache expiration. Most resolvers respect the TTL published on the record, but many intermediate caches round up. In practice, expect changes to be visible worldwide within a few hours, and complete within 24 to 48 hours.

Why is my DNS record not updating?

The most common cause is a resolver still serving a cached copy of the old record. Try querying from a different network, use a public resolver such as 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8, or lower the record TTL a day before you plan to change it.
