DNSFetch (“we”, “us”, or “the site”) provides a free DNS lookup tool. This page explains what information the site collects when you use it, how that information is used, and what choices you have.

Information we collect

DNSFetch does not require you to create an account, and we do not ask for personal details in order to use the tool. When you visit the site, the following information is collected automatically:

• IP address. Your IP address is visible in server logs and is displayed back to you on the homepage. It is also used to enforce per-IP rate limits so the service remains fast and available for everyone.
• Requested domain and record type. When you submit a lookup, the domain name and record type you asked for are processed by the site. Recent queries are cached briefly (a few minutes) to speed up repeat lookups.
• Standard web logs. Timestamps, HTTP user agent, referring page, and other information a normal web server records with every request.

How we use this information

• To answer your DNS lookup and return results to your browser.
• To rate-limit abusive traffic and keep the service reliable.
• To diagnose technical problems and improve the site.
• To measure aggregate usage (page views, popular record types, and similar metrics).

We do not sell your data, and we do not build a public database of the domains people look up.

Cookies

DNSFetch itself does not set advertising or tracking cookies. If we display ads through third-party ad networks (see below), those networks may set their own cookies. You can control cookies in your browser at any time.

Third-party advertising

We may use third-party advertising companies, including Google AdSense, to serve ads when you visit the site. These companies may use cookies, web beacons, or similar technologies to collect information about your visits to this and other websites in order to serve ads that are more relevant to you.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this and other sites on the internet. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out page.

Analytics

We may use standard privacy-respecting analytics tools to measure aggregate traffic. These tools do not identify individual visitors.

Data retention

Server logs are retained for a short operational window (typically a few weeks) and then discarded. DNS lookup caches expire after a few minutes.

Children’s privacy

DNSFetch is a general-audience technical tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA to access, correct, or delete information we hold about you. Because DNSFetch does not maintain user accounts, the primary identifier we ever have for you is your IP address in short-lived logs. Contact us if you would like to exercise any of these rights.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “last updated” date at the top of the page. Continued use of DNSFetch after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
